Preventing Gender-Based Violence Through Sport

Firey Lou is proud to partner with Wangaratta City Soccer Club on a powerful community-led initiative to prevent gender-based and family violence through sport. This collaborative project brings gender equity, respect, and safety to the forefront of local sporting culture, engaging players, families, and supporters in creating meaningful change. The project includes:

• Awareness-raising materials and posters displayed throughout the club, sparking everyday conversations about respect, inclusion, and safety.

• A tailored social media campaign, sharing messages that challenge harmful gender stereotypes and promote positive club culture.

• Workshops and education sessions for all levels at the club

• A special fundraising round, culminating in the popular Deadlifts for Change event, raising funds for prevention programs while celebrating strength, solidarity, and community action.

• Policy review and support, helping the club ensure its practices are safe, inclusive, and aligned with best-practice prevention principles.
